Are there any precautions I should take in extreme weather conditions?

Extreme weather requires specific precautions to protect your Pikkuna investment and ensure long-term durability:

Strong Winds and Storms
Before an approaching storm with high winds, you have two options: either ensure the curtain is securely fastened at all mounting points (check that turn buttons are tight, screws are secure, and Velcro is properly adhered), or completely roll up and secure the curtain if wind speeds are expected to exceed 60-70 km/h (37-43 mph). Partially secured curtains can flap violently in strong winds, which stresses the mounting hardware and can tear the reinforced edges. If you choose to leave the curtain extended during windy weather, inspect all fastening points immediately after the storm and re-tighten any that have loosened.

Winter and Cold Weather (Below +5°C / 41°F)
When temperatures drop below +5°C (41°F), leave your Pikkuna curtain fully extended rather than rolling it up. Cold PVC becomes rigid and brittle—attempting to roll or fold it in freezing conditions will create permanent creases, stress cracks, or even tears that cannot be repaired. If you need to remove the curtain for winter, do so on a warmer day (above +5°C), bring it indoors to room temperature, and store it loosely rolled or laid flat in a climate-controlled space. For curtains that remain installed through winter, check mounting hardware after freeze-thaw cycles, as expanding and contracting materials can loosen fasteners.

Heavy Snow and Ice
Clear vinyl side curtains (Pikkuna) are not designed to bear the weight of accumulated snow. If snow or ice builds up on horizontal surfaces above your curtain (such as a roof overhang) and begins sliding down onto the PVC, gently clear it away using a soft broom or brush. Never use sharp tools or apply excessive force. For winter climates with frequent heavy snowfall, consider installing your Pikkuna at an angle or leaving space at the top to prevent snow load accumulation.

Intense Summer Heat
In very hot weather (above 35°C / 95°F), PVC film softens slightly and can stretch more easily under tension. Check fastening points during heat waves and re-tighten if needed. Avoid placing hot objects (like grills, heaters, or fire pits) closer than one meter to the curtain.
