How do turn buttons work?

Turn buttons are our most popular mounting hardware—small rotating fasteners that secure your Pikkuna's reinforced edge to wooden or composite frame surfaces. Each turn button consists of a rotating disc attached to a base plate with two screw holes.

How Turn Buttons Work
The curtain's reinforced fabric edge features pre-punched holes (eyelets) spaced along its length. To install, you first attach the turn button base to your frame with two screws, positioning it so the rotating disc can reach the eyelet in the curtain edge. Once the base is secured, you insert the curtain edge eyelet over the turn button post, then rotate the button disc 90 degrees to lock the curtain edge in place. The rotating disc clamps the fabric edge against the frame, creating a firm hold while allowing you to easily release the curtain by rotating the button back to its open position.

Spacing and Positioning Guidelines
Turn buttons must be positioned at least 5 cm (2 inches) from corners and edges to prevent the screws from splitting the wood or pulling out under tension. Along each edge of your curtain, space turn buttons approximately 30-50 cm (12-20 inches) apart for optimal tension distribution. Closer spacing (30 cm intervals) provides maximum wind resistance and prevents sagging on long spans, while 50 cm spacing works well for shorter edges or sheltered locations. The two screws securing each button base should be driven firmly into solid frame material—never into thin trim or weak spots that could pull away under tension.

Installation and Tensioning
When installing turn buttons, don't fully tighten all buttons at once. Instead, loosely attach all buttons first, then work systematically around the perimeter, gradually increasing tension. Start from the dominant edge (typically the top), rotate each button to engage the curtain edge, check that the fabric sits flat without wrinkles, then move to the next mounting point. This progressive tensioning technique prevents creating localized over-tight spots that cause wrinkles elsewhere. Turn buttons are ideal for semi-permanent installations where you want the flexibility to remove the curtain seasonally—simply rotate all buttons open and lift the curtain away from the frame.
