Open flames and high temperatures can damage PVC and its synthetic borders. To keep both your Pikkuna and your guests safe, place any grill — gas, charcoal or electric — no closer than one metre (approximately 40 inches) from the weather screen. This clearance prevents radiant heat, flying sparks and greasy smoke from warping the PVC film, discolouring the border or melting the sewn seams.
Whenever space allows, position the grill so that its lid opens away from the screen and the hot exhaust is directed in the opposite direction. If your terrace layout is fixed, consider adding a heat shield or a sheet of fire-resistant board between the grill and the screen, and never leave the grill unattended while it is in use. Allow the appliance to cool completely before rolling up or fastening the screen, and clean any grease splatters from the PVC to preserve clarity and longevity.
