Pikkuroof installation follows a systematic stretching-and-fastening process that ensures proper tension across your roof opening. The installation progresses rafter by rafter, with careful attention to maintaining even tension and eliminating sagging.
Step 1: Initial Positioning
With your helper, carefully unfold and position the Pikkuroof panel over your rafter structure. Orient the panel so the reinforced edges align roughly with your outer rafters and the overall dimension matches your opening. Don't worry about perfect alignment yet—you'll adjust positioning as you stretch and fasten. The panel should drape loosely across the rafters at this stage, with enough slack that you can easily reach underneath to grab and pull it during stretching. Verify that you're working with the correct side facing up (the smooth PVC surface should face the sky, with the reinforced mesh layer against the rafters).
Step 2: Secure the Starting Edge
Begin installation at one end of your roof opening—typically the edge farthest from where you'll be working or the edge that's most accessible from your ladder position. Pull the Pikkuroof panel taut along this starting edge and drive screws directly through the reinforced edge material into the first rafter. Each screw comes with a soft rubber washer that sits between the screw head and the PVC surface—this washer distributes pressure and prevents the screw from tearing through the material. Space screws 30-50 cm (12-20 inches) apart along this first edge. Don't over-tighten—screws should be snug enough that the washer compresses slightly and holds the material firmly, but not so tight that they deform or puncture the PVC.
Step 3: Progressive Stretching Rafter by Rafter
Once the starting edge is secured, move to the next rafter and repeat the stretching-and-fastening process: One person pulls the Pikkuroof panel firmly toward the next rafter, stretching it taut to eliminate any sagging or slack in the span you just crossed. The second person drives screws through the material into the rafter while the first person maintains tension. Continue this rafter-by-rafter progression across your entire roof opening. At each rafter, check that the surface between the previous rafter and current rafter appears smooth and taut—no visible sagging or loose areas. If you notice sagging, increase the stretch force
