Before ordering, carefully verify that your pergola, terrace roof, or overhead structure meets these essential requirements—failure to meet them can result in installation problems, water pooling, or premature material failure.
Rafter Spacing and Levelness
Your roof rafters (the horizontal beams that will support the Pikkuroof panel) must be spaced no more than 80 cm (31.5 inches) apart center-to-center. Wider spacing doesn't provide adequate support for the PVC material—you'll get excessive sagging between rafters that looks poor and allows water or snow to pool dangerously. If your current rafter spacing exceeds 80 cm, you'll need to add intermediate rafters before installing Pikkuroof. All rafters must be level with each other along the same horizontal plane—if some rafters sit higher or lower than others, the Pikkuroof panel won't stretch evenly and you'll create permanent wrinkles or stress points. Use a long straightedge or laser level across your rafters to verify they're coplanar before ordering.
Minimum Roof Pitch: 5 Degrees
Your roof structure must have at least a 5-degree slope (approximately 9 cm of rise per meter of horizontal run, or 1 inch per foot). This minimum pitch is absolutely critical—it ensures rainwater and melted snow run off the Pikkuroof surface rather than pooling in low spots. Flat or near-flat roofs (less than 5 degrees) will accumulate water in any slight depressions, creating heavy loads that stress the material and mounting hardware. Over time, water pooling leads to permanent sagging, accelerated material degradation, and potential collapse under snow load in winter. If your structure doesn't have a 5-degree pitch, you must modify the rafter structure to create proper slope before Pikkuroof installation is viable.
Clear Obstruction-Free Opening
The entire roof opening where Pikkuroof will install must be free of obstructions: no hanging lights, ceiling fans, decorative beams, pipes, cables, or other protrusions that would interfere with the flat PVC panel. Pikkuroof is a stretched membrane—it cannot accommodate bumps or obstacles. If you have lighting or other features on your roof structure, they must be relocated or removed before installation.
