Hooks are specialized mounting hardware designed for situations where the curtain edge needs to wrap around a corner, post, or beam at a right angle (90 degrees). Unlike turn buttons that work best on flat surfaces, hooks excel at perpendicular mounting scenarios common in outdoor structures.
Ideal Use Cases for Hooks
Choose hooks when installing Pikkuna on round or square posts, columns, L-shaped frame corners, or any situation where the frame surface isn't flush with the curtain plane. For example, if you're enclosing a pergola supported by standalone posts, the curtain edge must wrap around the cylindrical or square post profile—hooks accommodate this wraparound geometry perfectly. Similarly, when mounting to the side face of a vertical beam where the curtain hangs perpendicular to the mounting surface, hooks provide the necessary 90-degree attachment angle. Hooks also work well on non-flat surfaces like rounded railings or decorative trim where turn buttons can't sit flush.
Hook Installation and Spacing
Each hook consists of a curved or angled bracket that screws into your frame, with an open slot or loop that captures the curtain edge eyelet. To install, screw the hook base firmly to your frame at the appropriate angle, then slide or snap the curtain edge eyelet into the hook opening. Space hooks 30-50 cm apart along the edge, similar to turn button spacing. The hook's curved design allows the curtain to pull away from the mounting surface at an angle while maintaining secure attachment and proper tension.
Important Tension Limitations
Never use hooks on both opposite edges (for example, left and right sides) without combining them with a different mounting method on the top and/or bottom edges. Hooks alone on opposite sides cannot create adequate tension because they allow too much flexibility in the curtain's position. Instead, pair hooks with turn buttons or screws on perpendicular edges—for instance, use hooks on the left and right vertical sides where you're wrapping around posts, and use turn buttons or screws on the flat top and bottom horizontal edges. This combination provides both the geometric flexibility of hooks and the firm tension control of flat-surface fasteners, ensuring your curtain hangs smooth and taut without wrinkles or sagging.
